16th Annual Adult Spelling Bee

Between beers and pizzas, champions of spelling emerged. The St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce’s 16th Annual Adult Spelling Bee brought out the most talented spellers in the county to the Sailfish Brewing Company.

Nine teams entered the competition from Budget Blinds, Class 101 of the Treasure Coast, Engineering, Design and Construction Inc., the Fort Pierce Woman’s Club, iThink Financial Credit Union, MIDFLORIDA Credit Union, Seacoast bank, the St. Lucie County Humane Society and PACE Center for Girls. Each team of three spellers did an incredible job! Our judges, Sean Boyle from the Children’s Services Council of St. Lucie County, Denise Smetana from iThink Financial and the winner of the celebrity judge race Shannon Glendinning from the Humane Society of St. Lucie County, got a front row seat to the spelling action.

Before the spelling took place, Shannon Glendinning announced her plan to share the funds raised from her celebrity judge victory with the five other nonprofits that competed. The Fort Pierce Woman’s Club, PACE Center for Girls, Family Meals, Inc., Special Olympics, and Madison’s Miracles will all be receiving $100.

Shannon will be bringing over $3,000 back to the Humane Society of St. Lucie County from the celebrity judge race and $1 from every beer purchased during the bee, courtesy of Sailfish Brewing Company.

The teams went through multiple rounds of spelling until Mayor Linda Hudson and St. Lucie Chamber CEO Terissa Aronson finally stumped all but one team. The presenting sponsor of the 16th Annual Adult Spelling Bee, iThink Financial won first place and the team spirit award! Class 101 of the Treasure Coast came in second and the PACE Center for Girls came in third.
